When talking about the French Distant Voices label, I usually go into superlatives. That label deserves this for sure, and this for a couple of reasons. I like the crew behind, for they are really devoted to the scene, preferring craftsmanship and identity above profit. I like the few projects involved, for that’s the kind of Aural Art I do simply adore. But it’s this label as well that does release quite everything in a strictly limited yet totally handmade edition. There are several labels doing so lately within ‘my’ styles, but in Distant Voices’ case it’s nothing but superiority when it comes to the physical output.

The legacy of the Distant Voices label is resolutely quiet, even virtually unknown. I get the feeling that they would like to keep it that way. It’s ironic that one of Distant Voices’s biggest selling points is that they’re committed to not selling. What would be a sabotaging gimmick in any other style makes perfect sense here. [...] Distant Voices’s perpetual determination to produce art without the hope of wider success puts them on the map, at least in an ultra-niche sort of way.

Il existe heureusement encore de (petits) labels pour lesquels la qualité l'emporte sur la quantité, pour qui un album est plus qu'une simple rondelle avec de la musique dessus, produit commercial aussi vite écouté aussi vite remisé. Il y a de (petits) labels pour qui chaque sortie est le fruit sincère du coup de coeur, produit pour ce qu'il est et non pas pour ce qu'il pourrait rapporter. Le modeste Distant Voices illustre cette démarche passionnée de plus en plus rare.
Aussi rare que précieux, Distant Voices est de ces labels qui possède une identité dans la démarche artistique.
